In a world where full lips are THE look, to the point where even teenagers are undergoing cosmetic procedures to get a more Kylie-esque pout, it can make one feel a little self conscious about their natural lips.
I'd say my lips aren't full or big, but I guess they're decent enough. However, no matter how on (or off) trend my lips are, taking good care of them will always be important. I never paid any attention to my lips until my senior year of high school when my friend introduced me to the magic that is Aquaphor Healing Ointment. She always had a small tube on hand, and her lips were healthy looking and noticeably fuller. Thus began my increased obsession with lip care. Coincidentally, taking care of my lips over the years has resulted in maintaining their fullness and elasticity.
Below are some of my tips on how to care for your lips and the products you need to achieve a younger, naturally plump pout. Click the pictures or prices to shop directly from each product's site!
Lip scrubs and exfoliants are essential for getting rid of dead, dry skin and softening the texture of your lips. I recommend using an exfoliating scrub twice a week for your softest lips ever! Also, exfoliating before you plan on wearing lipstick for an extended period of time will help the application process and keep your lipstick looking fresh all day. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish $26
Lip masks are a great way to bring life back to your lips. They deliver insane nourishment directly to your lips, keeping them supple and soft. If I'm going to an event, throwing on a gel mask as I get ready is a quick way to perk up my pout in minutes. While some masks are meant to cover your lips for 10 minutes, other can be put on manually and are oftentimes meant to be worn overnight, giving you perfectly hydrated lips first thing in the morning! My love for balms is probably unhealthy. Seriously, I carry no less than three lip balms in my bag at all times. I don't know why I'm like this. I think it's interesting how such a simple product has such a wide variety of formulas and price ranges. The options are endless! I love to wear a rich balm at night, and I apply lighter balms during the day time, or whenever my lips are feeling a little chapped. Le Labo Lip Balm $14
